Standing Committee (Tourism) on development Inland Waterways





परिवहन, पर्यटन औऱ सांस्कृतिक संबंधी संसदीय स्थायी समिति ने कहा है कि सरकार देश में जलमार्गों का विकास करने में विफल रही है जबकि यह परिवहन का सबसे सस्ता और सुरक्षित माध्यम है।

समिति ने कहा है कि जल परिवहन के जरिये देश पर से तेल आयात बिल का खर्च कम किया जा सकता है। सीताराम येचुरी की अध्यक्षता में, संसद में पेश अपनी 189 वीं रिपोर्ट में समिति ने जलमार्गों के विकास की जमकर वकालत की है। समिति ने कहा है कि देश में नदियों और नहरों के जरिये जल परिवहन की अपार संभावनायें हैं। समिति के मुताबिक जल परिवहन पर्यावरण अनुकूल होने के अलावा सड़क परिवहन से सस्ता है, और इस के जरिये सरकारी कंपनियों का माल भाड़ा खर्च घटाने में मदद मिलेगी और देश में होने वाली सड़क दुर्घटनाओं में भी कमी आयेगी।

Standing Committee (Finance) Report on Benami Transaction (Prohibition) Bill




The Standing Committee on Finance has found many limitations in the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Bill, 2011. In its report, the committee has suggested to bring some changes in the bill to make it more stringent and give it a proper legal framework support. The committee has also objected on the provisions of the bill which does not regard a transaction to be Benami where close relations are involved.

Standing Committee (Industry) Report on Hotel Corporation of India



The Standing Committee on Industry has recognized the poor condition of the Hotel Corporation of India Ltd. (HCIL) and that it requires immediate support. In its report, the committee has expressed hope that the reorganization of HCIL would also benefit Air India.

Standing Committee (Finance) report on NDPS (amendment) Bill 2011




The Parliamentary Standing Committee on finance has recommended modifications to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) (Amendment) Bill, 2011 to address the anomalies in the legislation before its enactment. On the proposed death penalty in the bill, the committee has held that it is not only harsh but unlawful as well. 

While agreeing on the necessity of the amendments proposed in the bill, the committee has said that there was a need for having a more comprehensive and broad-based legislation on narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Who is Hussain: A Campaign



As the world marked the 10th day of the first month of the Islamic Calendar, also known as Ashura day, a group of enthusiastic youth started a unique campaign, ‘Who is Hussain’.
This small band distributed around 5000 water bottles on the streets of Mumbai to the locals, irrespective of religion. Messages by great personalities including those of Gandhiji, Nehru, Gibbon, Rabindranath Tagore and Carlyle for Imam Hussain were imprinted on these water bottles in bold letters. Also, these bottles included the message of Imam Hussain for Humanity.
Different spots between Dahisar Toll Naka and Bandra Kala Nagar signal were chosen to fulfill the task that was accomplished by around two dozen students. “Actually, the people are anxious to know, why we people mourn over Imam Hussain and his small band of the faithful companions. We planned to inform them Who is Hussain’, says Farazdaq Rizvi, a local convener of the programme.

“Program was the part of an international campaign”, he says. Also he claimed that such events are to be carried in other cities too.
Muslims around the world commemorate day of Ashura for the sacrifice made by Imam Hussain, the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad and his companions. This band of believers not more than 72 was brutally killed in the battle of Karbala by the forces deputed by Yezid ibn Muavia, the then ruler some 13 centuries ago.

It is said that when he failed in negotiations with the ruling party, he expressed the wish to move towards India. Although Imam Hussain failed to reach India, his message prevails. Thousands of Indian, including Hindus commemorates his death with total devotion in different parts of the country.
